Digital Masters - FinTech Dinner 2020

The Digital Masters Programme brings together key players in the digital ecosystem to share ideas and make new connections, and what better way to begin the new year, and new decade, than with the FinTech Dinner in the wonderful surroundings of Morton Society, London.

The event boasted a truly stellar roster of some of the leading figures in FinTech and companies all along the growth curve, from the likes of VC-backed CurrencyCloud to large corporates such as Barclays, as well as important investors in the space, not least our speaker for the evening, Tim Levene from Augmentum FinTech.

Starting out, discussion - almost inevitably - centred around Brexit, and whilst the date of the United Kingdom’s departure had come and gone, uncertainty over the future of the economy, and specifically London as a FinTech hub, still remained for many. However, shot through this was a belief in the innovation and talent in the capital as exemplified by the significant increase in investment in the sector over the past five years.

Whilst in previous years discussions around technology tended to focus more on the headline-grabbing developments in blockchain and A.I., this year felt more like a back-to-basics with increased cloud adoption across the business landscape. Other topics of discussion included PropTech with topics covered including the increasing digitisation of the mortgage process and the pooling of deposits to group-invest in property.

We think it’s fair to say that the evening was an unmitigated success, something which we could not have achieved without the support of our sponsors, EY, Orrick, Silicon Valley Bank and Silverpeak.
