Mark Lewis - John Lewis

As Online Director since March 2013, Mark Lewis has helped oversee the successful transformation of a traditional retailer into an omnichannel giant and helped grow online sales in the process. In 2014 John Lewis generated £1.4bn in online sales, accounting for 33% of all revenue, growing at a rate of 22% year-on-year.

In terms of online sales acceleration, Mark and his team are outstripping the rest of the UK market. Against this backdrop, John Lewis online has also delivered on the bottom line through marketing efficiency, enhanced basket conversion and delivery proposition enhancements.

Mark and his team have concentrated on reworking the customer experience across all platforms and, in particular, enhancing the user experience on mobile and touch devices. It is an approach that is clearly paying off.

Bertrand Bodson - Home Retail Group

Investing in a digital transformation initiative last year is paying off for Home Retail Group. Now almost 50% of its business is digital and – bar Amazon and eBay – it is the largest online retailer in the UK. Bertrand Bodson has overseen a complete overhaul of most of the business’s digital channels and introduced a new store browser with a firm focus on mobile. This is resonating with its core customers, who want immediate access and to browse products while ‘on the run’. Almost half of the group’s business is now on mobile and its app has been downloaded more than eight million times.

Bertrand has also better positioned the business to foster partnerships. An innovative deal with eBay, for instance, means it has eBay deployed across 750 stores with 160,000 eBay merchants. Bertrand is also leveraging the group assets to forge stronger links between Argos, Homebase and Habitat.


Andy Harding - House of Fraser

Andy Harding has ultimate P&L responsibility for House of Fraser’s online division, which has proved the engine room for growth within the UK business during the last five years.

Last year after two years of using predictive insight, House of Fraser’s website was relaunched with a mobile-first emphasis. This resulted in a 30% uptick in web traffic, a 17% increase in conversion and a rise of 11% in average order value. House of Fraser also won Paypal’s Multichannel Retailer of the Year Award in 2014.
